Rural development has been in a prime focus for various government , non government and institutes. In recent times students are being involved in various projects for rural development in different aspects related to education, agriculture, health and infrastructural development.

Many institutes have laid their hand forward to educate and bring awarness in rural lives and farm industry to prosper.Likewise, IK Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKG-PTU) is all set to launch a rural development programme, which will involve each student studying on the university campus as well as in affiliated colleges.

The aim of the project is to work on development in rural area by the university. Realising the need of the hour to connect the youth with various community and social works, the board of governors of the university has decided that these values must be inculcated among the students who will be future professionals.

Dr AP Singh while addressing the NGOs put forth the vision of the university before all the participants by saying that the programme was aimed at sensitising the youth about prevailing socio-economic issues and to strengthen their value-system towards community social work for ensuring sustainable development of society where each section is empowered to earn a better life.

It will focus mainly on the issues of water-logging, rejuvenation of ponds, hygiene, cleanliness, gender sensitisation, education for rural population, awareness of panchayati raj, micro entrepreneurship and formation of start-up villages.

Looking into the magnanimity of the task, the university may also engage certain NGOs with proven capabilities to assist the organisation in identification of the area-specific issues.
