Syngenta India, with a cost of Rs. 3.3 crore, has dedicated a state-of-art biggest rural wayside market in Wanaparthy district, Telangana recently. Spread over 51020 sq feet, the market has been built under Syngenta’s CSR I-CLEAN (Inculcating Cleanliness, Learning, Education, Awareness and New Habits) programme. The Telangana Agriculture Marketing Board will be in charge of running and maintaining the market. This market will serve over 20,000 farmers by providing a safe place for them to conduct business, as well as consumers from over 30 villages and urban areas surrounding the district headquarter.
One of the marketplace’s distinguishing features is that it offers exclusive facilities for women farmers, such as a daycare facility with a baby feeding room. This will allow women farmers to concentrate on their businesses without having to worry about leaving their children at home.
Speaking at the inauguration, J Erik Fyrwald, Global CEO, Syngenta said, “Syngenta is preparing to celebrate India’s march to Amrit Kaal and its ascension to the world’s fifth largest economy. India’s rapid progress is inspiring and transformative, and it has strengthened Syngenta’s resolve to continue investing in the country’s agricultural future.”
“For the past 94 years, India has been at the centre of our attention due to its sheer size, diversity, and potential – agriculture employs 40 per cent of the country’s workforce. We have consistently worked to address the challenges that Indian agriculture faces. As a result, our R&D has been focused on providing technology to the farming community in order to increase productivity while also lowering input costs for better returns on investment. We invest and innovate to change the way crops are grown and protected, resulting in positive, long-term changes in agriculture. Our goal is to be the most collaborative and trusted team in agriculture, providing leading seed and crop protection innovations, as well as digital solutions, to help farmers prosper wherever they are,” Fyrwald added.
Highlighting the Syngenta I-CLEAN project, Susheel Kumar, MD & Country Head, Syngenta India said, “The I-CLEAN project was a resounding success. We are pleased to be able to contribute to Telangana’s rural prosperity, which has one of the highest rates of agricultural growth in the country at 7.8 per cent. The state has made rapid strides with a slew of impressive programmes such as the Rythu Bandhu Scheme, Mission Bhagiratha, and Drone Certification, and it gives us great pleasure to be partners in this journey.”
“This ultra-modern rural market will give a big boost to farmers’ incomes and their ease of life,” said Singhireddy Niranjan Reddy, Minister for Agriculture, Government of Telangana. “I thank Syngenta India for constructing its largest rural market for Wanaparthy farmers,” the minister added.
Underlining the facilities in the market, Dr KC Ravi, Chief Sustainability Officer, Syngenta India, said, “This state-of-art wayside market is equipped with modern amenities including approach roads from the highway, 78 raised platforms, sheds, lights, parking facility, safe drinking water, toilet blocks for men and women, water harvesting, lush green frontage, waste disposal, and children playing area. This project is unique in that it includes market stalls, sheds, a canteen, a baby feeding room, and a crèche facility. The market is projected to help approximately 20 per cent of female farmers of the region.”
Apart from Telangana, there are 24 such Syngenta I-CLEAN projects running in Bihar (18), Uttar Pradesh (02), and Karnataka (04) that cater to the needs of farmers.
