Shipotasav brings artisans from across India

Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment Thaawar Chand Gehlot visited Shilpotsav, the annual fair of artisans from across the country, in New Delhi. During his visit, the minister said that Shilpotsav provides an opportunity for creating awareness among the general public and the target group in particular about the variety of activities pursued by the beneficiaries under various schemes of apex corporations and national institutes. It also spreads the message of poverty alleviation through concessional finance and marketing linkages.

The minister further added that in addition to providing social justice to the people through economic empowerment, finance corporations are doing their best to provide marketing platform to the artisans.

He also said that such events provide information about developmental programmes and opportunities to the artisans for interaction with potential buyers and exporters.

Training artisans in skill upgradation is another area where corporations are required to put their efforts to identify the training needs of the artisans and arranging best possible training for them. The training will help these people in competing with their competitors, Gehlot further said.

Buyer-seller-meets are being organised during Shilpotsav, inviting export houses and government departments dealing in export oriented activities.

The range of products in the fair includes – silk sarees, durries, terracotta product, jute products, dress material, kashmiri shawls, leather, cane and bamboo products, hand embroidery, bead products, pearls, decorative candles, block printing and marble artifacts, to name some.
