The recently launched ‘Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Programme’ (SVEP) will provide support to 1 crore village enterprises and to provide direct employment to two 2 crore people in the rural areas. The programme was launched to encourage rural youth to take up local entrepreneurship.

In a written reply to Lok Sabha, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Rajiv Pratap Rudy said, “In the first phase of validating concept, SEVP is expected to support creation and strengthening of about 1.82 lakh village enterprises in 125 Blocks across 24 States in the targeted four years, 2014-2019. This is expected to create employment for about 3.78 lakh persons.
