After affecting the crops in Kharif season, the deficient monsoon is seem to have started affecting the sowing in Rabi season.

The total area sown under Rabi crops as on November 27, 2015 stands at 317.96 lakh hectares as against of 372.61 lakh hectare last year at this time. The figures were released by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare after receiving the preliminary reports received from the States.

The major cereal crop, wheat has been sown or transplanted in 117.32 lakh hectares as against 161.57 lakh hectare last year this time, pulses are sown in 90.91 lakh hectare as against of 97.80 lakh hectare, coarse cereals in 44.40 lakh hectares as against 37.48 lakh hectares, oilseeds in 57.08 lakh hectares as against 65.73 lakh hectare and rice in 8.26 lakh hectares as against 10.04 lakh hectare last year this time.
