Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a 2-day event “PM Kisan Samman Sammelan 2022” on October 17, 2022 at the mela ground of ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) in New Delhi. The prime minister will transfer Rs. 16,000 crores as the 12th instalment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) flagship programme on this occasion via direct benefit transfer (DBT). The Agri Start-up Conclave-cum-Exhibition under the Kisan Sammelan will also be opened by the prime minister. He will also launch the One Nation One Fertilizer programme for farmers and inaugurate 600 PM Kisan Samruddhi Kendras (PMKSK) established by the Union Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers.

Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, and Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers, announced today at a press conference that PM Modi will address millions of farmers, Agri start-ups, researchers, policymakers, bankers, and other stakeholders through the “PM Kisan Samman Sammelan 2022” organised by both ministries. Farmers and agricultural start-ups will share a stage at the event. Over a crore farmers will virtually participate in this event. Additionally participating online in the event are 732 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), 75 ICAR Institutes, 75 State Agricultural Universities, 600 PM Kisan Centers, 50,000 Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS), and 2 Lakh Community Service Centers (CSCs).

PM Kisan Samman Nidhi

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), a flagship scheme of the Government of India, was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 24, 2019. A benefit of Rs. 6000 per year in three equal instalments of Rs. 2000 each is given to eligible farming families under the programme once every four months. Through the direct benefit transfer (DBT) method, which makes use of contemporary digital technologies, the benefit is delivered directly to the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries. Through 11 instalments, qualified farmer families have thus far received benefits totalling more than Rs. 2 lakh crore through the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi. During the Covid-19 epidemic, 1.6 lakh crore rupees have been transferred out of this total. The total cash distributed to the recipients is anticipated to exceed Rs 2.16 lakh crore by the time the prime minister releases the 12th instalment on October 17, 2022.

Agri Start-up Conclave and Exhibition

On the first day of the Agri Start-up Conclave and Exhibition, almost 300 startups will present their innovations in precision farming, post-harvest and value-added solutions, allied agriculture, waste to wealth, machinery for small farmers, supply chain management, and argi-logistic. The Kisan Samman Sammelan will feature participation from about 1500 start-ups. With the use of this platform, start-ups could communicate with farmers, FPOs, agri-experts, and corporations. In the technical workshops on October 18, the start-ups will discuss their experiences and engage with other stakeholders. The importance of start-ups in the $5 trillion economy and current government initiatives to support the start-up ecosystem will also be discussed by officials.

To launch of 600 PM Kisan Samruddhi Kendras

The prime minister will also inaugurate 600 PM Kisan Samruddhi Kendras (PMKSK) of Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers. At present, there are around 2.7 lakh fertiliser retail shops in the country at the village, sub-district, sub-division, taluk and district levels. They are company-managed, cooperative shops or retailed to private dealers. The fertiliser retail shops will be converted into a one-stop shop in a phased manner called as PM Kisan Samrudhi Kendra (PMKSK) will cater to the needs of the farmers in the country and provide agri-inputs such as fertilisers, seeds and farm equipment; testing facilities for soil, seeds, fertilisers; awareness among farmers; provide information regarding various government schemes and ensure regular capacity building of retailers at block and district level outlets. In the pilot phase, at least one retail shop at each district level will be converted into model shop. It is proposed to convert 330,499 retail fertiliser shops into PMKSK.

Initiating One Nation One Fertilizer scheme

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also launch India’s biggest move in fertilisers One Nation One Fertilizer (ONOF) scheme. The government of India is making it mandatory for fertiliser companies to market their goods under the brand name “Bharat” to standardise fertiliser brands across the nation irrespective of the company that manufactures it. It may be “Bharat Urea, Bharat DAP, Bharat MOP, and Bharat NPK. The development of a single brand ‘Bharat” for all fertilisers will lead to reduce criss-cross movement of fertilisers leading to a high freight subsidy. The Prime minister will be launching Bharat Urea bags during the event.
