On a verge of development in the agriculture system, the government is opening linkage and infrastructure that can help in better functioning of the procedure and help in rural development .Therefore in context to this and provide linkage between research and farm activities, the Odisha Government is all set to construct permanent infrastructure for Sundargarh Krishi Vigyan Kendra-II (KVK) or Agriculture Technology Park at Rourkela.
Funded by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and run by Odisha University of Agriculture Technology (OUAT), KVK-II is operating with limited technical activities from 2012 at a temporary facility here.
Sources said Sundargarh district administration has provided 50 acres of land at Bankia near Omfed dairy plant here. The campus will also house the Agro Polytechnic Centre with intake capacity of 20 seats to offer two years diploma course in agriculture.
Senior agriculture scientist and head of KVK-II Jayant Kumar Pati said the campus will have farmers’ hostel, demonstration units, water harvesting structure, integrated farming system, poly house and protected cultivation unit, vermin compost and organic inputs production unit, minimal processing unit, fruits and vegetables preservation and value addition unit, poultry, fisheries and duckery units and seed production units. It will also impart short and long term agriculture training to rural youths, he added.
The Agriculture Technology Park would be a single window system to transfer agriculture technologies and knowledge to farm fields. It aims to cover rural women, farmers, unemployed youths, field-level agriculture personnel and rural volunteers on scientific farming to boost socio-economic condition of rural areas.
