In a move to streamline rural development projects in Odisha, the State Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik toady launched a new initiative ‘Ama Gaon Ama Yojana’, in Bhubaneswar.
The Odisha Chief Minister launched the programme while inaugurating a workshop-cum-review meeting on the new initiatives by Panchayati Raj Department. The event was attended by Project Directors of the District Rural Development Agency of all 30 districts and Block Development Officers from across the State.
Patnaik also released guidelines for the Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana, a rural housing scheme and presented awards to performing districts and blocks. He directed the project directors and BDOs to ensure proper implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Gurantee Act (MGNREGA) for providing succour to the rural masses in distress due to drought-like situation prevailing in the State.
Stating that many potential districts are lagging behind in MGNREGA in this financial year, the Chief Minister asked the officers of those districts to put in their best efforts to improve their performance. “The targets, in terms of person days and expenditure, will have to be achieved without fail; under-achievement will not be tolerated,” Patnaik said.
He also stressed the need for proper implementation of Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana and Gopabandhu Gramin Yojana in all 30 districts of the State.
