The National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayat (NIRD) has kicked off its 13th Rural Technologies and Crafts Mela -2015 at its main campus in New Delhi. The event, started today, will end on 12 of this month.
NIRD Director General MV Rao informed that 148 entrepreneurs from 19 states are participating in the mela. The products made by Self Help Groups and small entrepreneurs are given more importance.
MV Rao said that solar related technologies such as lighting, food processing, dehydration are given special focus during this mela as encouragement for adoption of the said technologies is found to be need of the hour, keeping in view of the power shortage.
Solar products, jute products, Kundan rangoli designs, Kashmiri Shawls, Terracota, imitation jewellery, tribal jewellery, Madhubani paintings and agriculture related technologies, etc will be displayed during the five-day mela.
Rao added that food courts at the event serve organic food items in order to propagate their nutritional values. Apart from the exhibition-cum-sale during the day, cultural programmes by professional, classical dancers, school children and PG diploma students will also be conducted.
