India is among the leading energy consumers across the globe, wherein the country represented 4.7 percent of the global energy consumption in 2013. Natural gas consumption in the country stood at 51.4 billion cubic meter in 2013, witnessing a CAGR of 5.71 percent during 2003-13. City Gas Distribution (CGD) in India is witnessing increasing market traction subsequent to the government’s announcement to extend CGD network to 200 cities. According to TechSci Research report ‘Alwar City Gas Distribution Market Forecast & Opportunities, 2040’, the natural gas demand in the district is expected to grow at a CAGR of 15 percent during 2018-2040.

CGD network in Alwar in Rajasthan has been segmented into industrial, commercial, transport and household segments. The industrial segment represents manufacturing companies encompassing general manufacturing, breweries/distilleries and textile manufacturing, amongst other key industries in the district, while commercial segment includes commercial establishments such as hotels, restaurants and hospitals in the district. Transport segment includes natural gas used as fuel for vehicles in the form of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
