A two day national conference on agriculture for Rabi (Winter) crops will be held in New Delhi on September 19-20, 2017. The Conference will discuss the rabi crop prospects this year.
To discuss the issues, strategies and new technologies with States and for better coordination, the Department of Agriculture Cooperation and Farmers Welfare ( DAC&FW) and ICAR jointly organised a pre conference interface with senior official on Tuesday. Pre conference interface discussed issues related to Rabi crops season. The session was jointly chaired by Secretary, DAC& FW and DG, ICAR. To remove hurdles,facing the agriculture production in the country, the session discussed issues related crops, soil, seed, nutrient management, horticulture among others. It focused on making available new and certified seeds to the farmers.
To reap the benefits from the use of Soil Health Card, it was decided that the sector needs to encourage development of Hand Held Device and Start-ups can be engaged and encouraged to manufacture the device. Both the Chair agreed that to double the income of the farmers, it is urgently required to supplement agriculture production with allied activities such as beekeeping, fisheries, social forestry and there is also a need to spread awareness about advanced varieties of seeds developed by scientists.
The issues and strategies, discussed during the interface will be shared with with states at the National Rabi Conference.
The two-day Rabi Conference will broadly engage state agriculture officers on preparedness for the rabi season, which begins next month. Progress in sowing of crops during the kharif season, which lasts till the end of this month, will also be taken into account.
The main rabi crops are wheat, barley, gram, pulses, linseed and mustard. The conference would discuss timely supply of farm inputs such as seeds, fertiliser, credit and insurance to farmers during the season. It will also discuss the possibility of increasing area under various Rabi crops. Irrigation especially micro irrigation will also attract attention of the experts and officials.
The conference will also look at strengthening the agri- marketing infrastructure and will stress upon the state governments to resolve the pending issues.
