Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India is celebrating its Iconic Week under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav from 7th – 13th March 2022 during the week of International Women’s Day. The week’s theme to celebrate the contribution of rural women in India is ‘Naye Bharat ki Naari’ (Women of New India) and the official hashtag is #NayeBharatKiNaari.

During this period, the Department of Rural Development, through its various programmes, has planned a series of celebratory events and activities at the national and state level. Each day of the iconic week has been dedicated to a sub-theme, which commemorates the opportunities harnessed by rural women, the social barriers broken by them or towards issues where rural women have taken unparalleled initiatives, particularly facilitated by the ministry in collaboration with other ministries and the states, to make a difference.

During the week-long celebration, each Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI) to start a batch with women trainees, Each state and UT to felicitate 75 self-help group (SHG) women earning more than Rs. one lakh, each state/UT to organise the Grih Pravesh of 75 women beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri AwaasYojana – Gramin, Rural SHG women under DAY-NRLM to run cleanliness drives in 75 districts across states, Each district to provide monetary assistance to 750 rural women beneficiaries under PMAY-G to build toilets through convergence under Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin (SBM-G).

The events have been planned to ensure ‘Jan Bhagidari’ (people’s participation) so as to take the celebrations right up to the village level and to the entire rural population. The theme-wise event and activities planned by various programmes under Naye Bharat ki Naari week at the national and state level are detailed below:

नए भारत की नारी (Women of New India) | March 08, 2022
3National level event to be presided by Union Rural Development Minister for celebrating International Women’s Day by Deendayal Antyodaya – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM). Experience sharing and felicitation of rural self-help group women.
आगे बढ़ने की आज़ादी (Freedom to Grow) | March 09, 2022
4Each state/UT to felicitate 75 self-help group (SHG) women earning more than Rs. 1 lakh under DAY-NRLM.
5Each state/UT to sanction Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) houses to 75 women (solely or jointly).
6Each state/UT to felicitate 75 Mahila Mate under MGNREGA.
7Felicitation of  75 women managed projects under RURBAN clusters in states and UTs.

8On-ground campaign of plantation and agri-nutri garden drives under DAY-NRLM at district, block and gram panchayat level.

गर्व से जीने की आज़ादी (Freedom to live with Pride) | March 11, 2022
10Gender Samwad on Nutrition under DAY-NRLM at the national level.
11Each state and UT to organise the Grih Pravesh of 75 women beneficiaries under PMAY-G.
12Felicitating 75 women who have been provided with livelihood opportunities under MGNREGA and have made success.
सफाई से रहने की आज़ादी (Freedom to live with Cleanliness) | March 12, 2022
13Rural SHG women under DAY-NRLM to run cleanliness drives in 75 districts across states.
14Securing water sources for better future – cleanliness drive of ponds, lakes, streams and other water bodies by women MGNREGA workers.
15Each district to provide monetary assistance to 750 rural women beneficiaries under PMAY-G to build toilets through convergence under SBM-G.
