Mahindra Rural Housing Finance ropes in Shantanu Rege as MD & CEO

Mahindra Rural Housing Finance (MRHFL), a subsidiary of Mahindra and Mahindra Financial Services, has appointed Shantanu Rege as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. He will succeed Rajnish Agarwal, who resigned as the CEO & MD as of September 30, 2022.

In 2012, Rege served as the Group Chairman, Anand Mahindra’s executive assistant in his prior position. After his assignment, he became the chief operating officer of the rural housing company in 2016. He was instrumental in establishing the affordable housing business and promoting growth potential within the rural housing segment.

Briefing about the appointment, Ramesh Iyer, VC & MD, Mahindra Finance said, “We are delighted that Shantanu Rege will be leading our Mahindra Rural Housing Finance company, and we look forward to leveraging his knowledge and vision as we hunt for more innovative and alluring development prospects. His expertise will undoubtedly serve us well moving forward. I want to officially recognise Rajnish for the great impact he made while working with us to grow our rural housing arm.”

On his appointment, Shantanu Rege, said, “It is an honour to take over and steer the firm moving forward after seeing the transformative power of housing finance in the lives of customers and workers over the past few years. Businesses in the rural and affordable housing sectors have enormous growth potential. We intend to develop the business over the coming few years into a leading home finance franchise that meets the housing requirements of a variety of clients through creative collaborations and solutions.”

With an MBA from Harvard Business School, Rege worked with McKinsey & Co. and Blackstone before joining Mahindra Group.
