“We are very happy and proud that Tech Mahindra Foundation’s SMART has grown to 50 centres and has been able to help twelve thousand children find meaningful employment thus far. We at Tech Mahindra are fully committed to offer every possible help and support to enable this wonderful programme to grow even further,” said CP Gurnani, Managing Director & CEO, Tech Mahindra Ltd on the occasion. Tech Mahindra Foundation (TMF), the CSR arm of leading technology company Tech Mahindra Limited. Tech Mahindra Foundation was set up by Tech Mahindra Limited (TML), as a Section 8 company, with a group of dedicated professionals to carry out its CSR activities in 2007. It works with more than 100 partners, more than a 1,00,000 beneficiaries annually across 10 cities of Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune.

Tech Mahindra Foundation has recently inaugurated its 50th SMART Centre – strategically planned at Khoda Village in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, one of the biggest urban slums in the NCR region of India. Conceptualized one and half years back, the SMART programme of Tech Mahindra Foundation has gained significant momentum in such a short span of time and today operates 50 SMART centres across the country training over 12,000 students thus far.  

The Noida-Ghaziabad region has witnessed high level of infrastructural development, including residential and commercial real estate construction which has attracted heavy inflow of migrant workers from across India. Dr. Loveleen Kacker, CEO, Tech Mahindra Foundation said – “We are very proud of what we have achieved through our SMART programme and its phenomenal growth since its inception just over 18 months ago. We believe that SMART is a very powerful concept and are extremely happy to inaugurate our 50th such centre with many more in the pipeline. This is doubly special for us as this is the first SMART-T centre, with a specially designed course to impart Technical skills to students.”

The foundation has partnered with ANK, based and working in Delhi NCR and rural areas of Bihar in India, to provide such youth/workers real-estate skills training, particularly in the areas of electrical and civil, including practical know-how, construction, safety supervisory among others.  “ANK has been trying to explore the potential of training underprivileged youths on skills suited for Real Estate sector. With locations like Indirapuram, Ghaziabad and newly developed sectors like 75, 76, NOIDA Expressway, Greater Noida West etc are witnessing high construction growth. With the help of Tech Mahindra Foundation, not only we will be able to nurture and provide practical onsite training to the youth and the migrant workers, but will be also catering to the requirements of real estate developers who need skilled workers to do the work more efficiently,” said, Mr. Abhishek Kishore, Executive Director, ANK India. “We are in touch with many developers like the Pearl Group, Unitech, Pari Developers etc and they have shown keen interest in placing our students, with their esteemed projects.”
