Khadi Gramodyog starts special sales drive

In order to push the sales of Khadi products, made by village entrepreneurs, Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan, located across the country, under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), has started sales campaign of Khadi products on discounted rates.

Inaugurating the sales drive at one of the stores of Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan in Cannaught Place, New Delhi, Madhav Lal, Secretary, Union Ministry of MSME informed that the Khadi Special Discount Sales Campaign will be for 108 working days. There will be 20 percent discount on Khadi products while students will get 5 percent additional discount during the period.

Khadi products range from silk and cotton sarees, woolen and pashmina shawls, herbal products including cosmetics, eatables and ready to wear garments.

Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) as a nodal agency provides finance, capacity building, skill development and market linkage to the artisans of Khadi manufacturers across the country under the ministry’s flagship programme, Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP).

After the opening of the refurbished Khadi Bhavan in February 2014 the sales has increased in eight months ie from February to September to the tune of Rs 390 lakh from Rs 205 lakh in the corresponding period of the previous year. This increase in sales of Rs 185 lakh is surprisingly more than the corresponding sales of Rs 150 lakh and Rs 117 lakh in the financial year 2010-11 and 2011-12 respectively. It is planned to increase the sales in the next 10 years from Rs 5,255 lakh to Rs 32,495 lakh.
