A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the University of Queensland, Australia, to enhance collaboration in the area of agriculture.
 
The MoU was signed by Arvind Kaushal, Additional Secretary, Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR), and Peter Hoj, President and Vice Chancellor of the University of Queensland.
 
Currently, the Australian university is working in three areas of research in progress for collaboration. They are horticulture crop improvement, animal vaccines, and sorghum breeding and crop protection.
 
ICAR is an autonomous organisation under the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India. It is the apex body for co-ordinating, guiding and managing research and education in agriculture including horticulture, fisheries and animal sciences in the entire country.
 
Dr Neena Mitter at Centre for Plant Science in Queensland Affiliation for Agriculture and Food Innovation has played an important role in securing funding from Horticulture Australia Limited to organise a workshop in University of Queensland. The workshop was held recently to develop liaison in the area of horticultural crops with a particular focus on mango and was attended by scientists from ICAR.
