In order to execute collaborative R&D and support grassroots innovations, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) signed two MoUs with the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), Bangaluru and National Innovation Foundation – India (NIF), Ahmedabad.
The event, organised in New Delhi, aimed at harnessing the synergies of these three important institutions and highlighted the possibilities for much needed emphasis on multi-disciplinary R&D activities and nurturing innovations from the informal sector.
In case of NIAS, particular areas of mutual interest included bio-security, gender studies and agricultural policy while with NIF, rural innovations and traditional knowledge are regarded important issues for collaborations.
Dr S Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE and Director General, ICAR inked these MoUs with Prof. Anil Gupta, Executive Vice-Chair, NIF and Dr Baldev Raj, Director, NIAS in the presence of R Rajagopal, Additional Secretary (DARE) & Secretary (ICAR).
The collaborations will help in development of science, skill and society. It will catalyse people-to-people contact and transfer of technology to better answer the issues of rural masses. Partnership and synergy between these organisations will help ICAR serving Indian agriculture better.
