Despite the deficit monsoon, unseasonal rains and hailstorm in the major part of the country, the production of horticulture crops have outpaced the production of food grains since 2012-13.
In 2012-13, the total horticulture production was 268.85 million tonnes while total foodgrains production was 257.13 million tonnes. In further increased to 277.35 million tonnes and 265.04 million tonnes in 2013-14, respectively. And in the year 2014-15, the total horticulture production was 280.99 million tonnes while total foodgrains production was 252.02 million tonnes.
There has been an increase of 1.3% in horticulture production and reduction of 4.9% in foodgrain production in 2014-15 as compared to 2013-14.
