Yuniarti Ilyas, internationally-acclaimed shooting coach of Indonesia, who was in Guwahati to take part in training camp organized by the Assam Rifle and Shooting Association (ARSA), said growing talented players in rural India is important.
Ilyas said, “Players in the urban areas get the best of facilities, but shooters from remote areas are deprived of this kind of infrastructure. There is no dearth of talent in rural areas but we need to groom them properly. That’s why I wanted to visit the region for a long time.”
Ilyas, who has tied up with ‘Gun For Glory’, an initiative by Olympic medalist Gagan Narang, said, "Shooters here are extremely talented. Over the last few years, they have been cooperative and have responded positively. I think what they need at this hour is to be a bit more disciplined to excel at the top level."
Ilyas is a participant of all rifle events at the Asian Games, World Championship, World Cups and Asian Championship.
ARSA’s general secretary Bhaba Kalita said, "We have invited just 10 players this time so that the coach can give more importance at the individual level. We will invite her again."
