Fertiliser (Control) Order, 1985 has been promulgated for regulation of quality of fertiliser, announces Mohanbhai Kundaria, Minister of State for Agriculture. Four organic fertilizers namely city compost, vermicompost, phosphate rich organic manure and organic manure have been notified so far under Fertiliser (Control) Order, 1985.

According to Kundaria, no person shall manufacture or import to sell, stock, exhibit for sale or distribute any organic fertilizer which is not notified in the said Order, or not of standard prescribe in the said Order.

The minister adds, States check the quality of organic fertilizers by drawing samples and testing them in notified laboratories. There have been cases of individuals found selling unnotified organic fertilizers reported in Karnataka.

The amendment is a regular process and is done as and when required.
