In order to award scholarships to students pursuing agricultural sciences in India, a global agricultural solutions company, FMC India has, recently, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with one of India’s leading agricultural universities, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana. The partnership is a part of FMC’s multi-year scholarship initiative for agricultural institutions in eight states across India with the goal of fostering potential in the agriculture sector.
According to the terms of the agreement, FMC will give four scholarships each year to PAU students pursuing doctoral and master’s degrees in agricultural sciences. The university’s top students will be identified by FMC in order to foster their enthusiasm for agricultural science and research. To encourage more women to pursue careers in agricultural sciences, 50% of the scholarships have been designated for female candidates. In addition to the scholarships, FMC will strengthen its continuing strategic ties with the institution and its long-standing collaborative research projects.
Briefing about the collaboration, Dr. Anandakrishnan Balaraman, Research and Development Director at FMC India said, “The FMC Science Leaders Scholarship Program was created to give budding scientists more opportunities to hone their skills in agricultural research. The FMC scholarships also give the recipients the chance to pursue internships and receive professional mentoring for their overall growth. This will inspire students to seek exciting jobs in the agricultural sector and eventually contribute to Indian agriculture by resolving new issues facing the farming community.
The Registrar of PAU, Dr. Shammi Kapoor praised the efforts made by FMC for offering thorough solutions in the agriculture and food industries while keeping ‘Farmers First’ in mind during strategy, planning, and action plans. “By inspiring the youthful, imaginative minds of academics in the institutions, scholarships like the FMC Science Leaders Scholarship Program will greatly aid in the development of futuristic sustainable agriculture technology. Mentorship from business professionals will broaden students’ skill sets and enable them to make promising contributions to the development of the nation, Dr. Kapoor said on the signing of the MoU.
The FMC initiative to enable students at universities to pursue higher education and develop professional competence in their subject areas was praised by Dr. Sandeep Bains, Dean of Postgraduate Studies at PAU. She emphasised the value of these partnerships in fostering future students and the economy by highlighting the partnerships PAU has with top industry partners in a variety of academic, research, and extension programmes.
