Desta Krushi Parivar, the online photo contest conducted by Desta Talk, has created a huge buzz among the farmers and agriculture community in Maharashtra. The aim of the contest was to revive the pride amongst the farmers about their noble profession via the use of internet and technology.

The contest had a simple concept of participation by Whatsapp or direct upload to the Desta portal. The theme was ‘Farming and Agriculture’ with winners decided based on voting and company discretion.

The evening kick started with a speech by Vinit Goenka, Honorary Secretary, Uttan Krushi Sanshodhan Sanstha wherein he observed that providing information in the regional language of the farmers will definitely help to fill the knowledge gap.

This was followed by a one act play presented by Prayatna Rang Manch and a foot-tapping musical performance by MFJ – a band from Mumbai.

Speaking on the occasion, the grand prize winner, Sonali Bhoi said, "This is a fantastic initiative by Desta to modernise the agriculture industry by creating awareness and generating information in effective way". The winning photo had a staggering 4,377 votes and over 14,000 views. She received a cheque of Rs 50,000- and a goodie box from the sponsors.

“We wanted to generate a buzz about the use of agriculture in technology and also bust the myth that the internet and smartphone usage is not part of the lives of our farmer counterparts,” said Mohnish Sharma, CEO, Desta Global.

The event was supported by Arvind Kumar, Managing Director, MAIDC and Dr. Sudheer Kumar Goyal, State Agricultural Secretary.

Ashok Kumar Bharimalla, Senior Scientist, CIRCOT; Sameer Pathare, MD of Swaroop Agro; Sharmila Gajjar, Editor, Agrotech Magazine and Anagha Mandavkar, Principal of Keshav Srushti Tantra Niketan were also present at the event.
