Agritech startup Krishify has crossed one crore app downloads recently, establishing itself as the top social networking site for Indian farmers. Commencing in 2019, it took the startup nearly three years to reach one crore app downloads, which included farmers from the Hindi-speaking region of India that, geographically, dominates North India, it took Krishify about three years.

The social network began as a simple application with media elements for sharing content linked to agriculture and allied activities, as well as a Q&A section for questions about agricultural crops. The programme gradually changed and became a social media platform where farmers could communicate with other farmers in different regions and take part in the peer-to-peer trade of cattle and tractors. The agritech platform’s user acquisition strategy, which combines sponsored and organic media initiatives, enabled it to increase its user (farmer) base rapidly.

Highlighting the milestone, Rajesh Ranjan, Founder and CEO, Krishify said, “Early on, we recognised that our strength lies in digitally acquiring farmers who are accustomed to and at ease using smartphones and social media. This lets us decide how to strategically contact them through different digital channels in order to get them to download our application. Getting users is the first step toward victory. By using behavioural science strategies, we are equally devoting our efforts to keeping users. The ultimate goal is to assist farmers in overcoming their farming difficulties and to provide them with a level playing field when interacting with diverse agricultural stakeholders.”

Krishify has so far raised US$6.5 million from a recent round of funding supported by VC firms like Omnivore, Omidyar Network, Ankur Capital, and Orios Venture Partners. The agritech startup wants to grow its user base to create a social network for farmers that spans all of India and incorporates several regional languages.
