Several experts have even been sharing their ideas and thoughts that can help to increase yield production. Likewise, Michael Brian Harman, Northern Virginia Community College explain that to increase yield more you could: use artificial light to extend day period, you could grow in controlled environment with elevated CO2 levels. At a deeper level, genetic modification has great potential to for example insert genes to increase efficiency of biological processes like upgrading a C3 plant to a C4 or add the capacity to fix nitrogen or even grow in less favorable environments, or go dormant when at a moisture deficit. Some of this may never be reality, others could be weeks to years away. In a more natural context, aggressive plant breeding programs could lead to any number of elevations in productivity.
