The Centre has released partial funds for the two major irrigation and 221 minor irrigation projects under Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programme (AIBP) in Bihar.
The first project, Punpun Barrage is situated in Aurangabad district which envisages construction of Head Works and Canal System to cover Culturable Command Area (CCA) of 13,680 hectare. During 2014-15, proposal of government of Bihar for releasing of Central grant of Rs.9 crore was received and approved by the Minister of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Uma Bharti. Part release of Rs 2.76 crore has been made during the current financial year.
The another project, Durgawati Reservoir Project is spread in Kaimur and Rohtas districts. This project covers 9,190 hectare of drought prone area and 23,277 hectare of non-drought prone area.
During 2014-15, proposal for release of Central grant of Rs 38.75 crore has been received and approved by the minister. Part release of Rs 7.59 crore has been made during the current financial year 2015-16.
Moreover, a total number of 221 minor irrigation schemes with an estimated cost of Rs 340.67 crore has been included for funding under AIBP. During 2014-15, an amount of Rs 70.86 crore has been released towards 129 ongoing scheme. The total grant amounting to Rs 195.21 crore has been released for these schemes till date.
