To cope up with the growing demand of solar pumping systems in irrigation, Union Ministry of Agriculture, with the consensus of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), has introduced solar energy pumping systems under the ‘Sub Mission on Agriculture Mechanisation’ implemented through state governments.
The ‘Sub Mission on Agricultural Mechanisation( SMAM)’ was implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture from in 2014. Under SMAM, the ministry provides the financial assistance through the respective State Governments on the purchase of the different type farm machinery and equipment for individual ownership, establishing Farm Machinery Banks to provide custom hiring services to the farmers.
Solar Photovoltaic water pumping systems for irrigation has also been included to the existing list of farm machinery under component 3 of SMAM guidelines. The pattern of financial assistance under SMAM for such pumping system is in line with the financial assistance pattern of MNRE.
Under the scheme, DC pumps upto 2 HP will be given a maximum subsidy of Rs 57,600 while pumps above 2 HP to 5 HP will be provided a maximum subsidy of Rs 54,000. However, the AC pumps upto 2 HP will be given maximum subsidy of Rs 50,400 and pumps above 2 HP to 5 HP will be given a maximum subsidy of Rs 43,200.
