Cairn India, in association with NASSCOM Foundation, inaugurated the Cairn NASSCOM Knowledge Centre (CNKC), at Gollavilli village in Uppalaguptham Mandal of East Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh, today.

The first batch of the Cairn NASSCOM Knowledge Centre with 30 students was inducted by Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister, N Chinna Rajappa in presence of MLA, A Ananda Rao, installation Manager, Cairn India among others.

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, Cairn India has tied up with NASSCOM Foundation to make young people from under-privileged communities employable and connect them with reputed companies in the organised sector.

CNKC will function as a digital resource centre for the village, and will provide computer education, enhance spoken English-communication skills to the local youth which will, in turn, enable them to compete with candidates from cities in the current job market.

The Knowledge Centre will have tie ups with industry partners and local business establishments for placement opportunities. This centre will also conduct behavioural sessions, employer orientation and training on communication skills to prepare the candidates for job interviews.

Cairn India’s initiative follows line of the Centre’s 10-point economic agenda which includes accelerating job creation. The CNKC seeks to do just that – bridge the gap and open channels between the youth of Gollavilli and business organisations, and enable access to employment opportunities, at par with the city-bred youth.

Speaking on this occasion, a Cairn India spokesperson said, “By 2020, India is set to become the world’s youngest country with 64 percent of its population in the working age group. Providing skills to the underprivileged youth is crucial to ensure their effective participation in the growth of the country. Cairn India identifies and understands the importance of skill development and access to employment opportunities. The CNKC continues to act as a facilitator, for the local youth, to explore a world of opportunities.”

Similar Knowledge Centres were introduced by Cairn India in collaboration with NASSCOM Foundation at S Yanam village in 2012 and in Challapalli village in 2014. Till date, S Yanam’s Centre has concluded 9 batches covering a strength of 135 students. Currently, the 10th batch is underway with 14 students. The Centre at Challapali has concluded 4 batches, till date, covering 120 students. Currently, the 5th batch is underway with 30 students.

In terms of placements, the Knowledge Centres coordinate with companies in the region to find suitable jobs, as per the skills and knowledge of each candidate. Till date 65 students from the S Yanam centre and 76 students from the Challapalli centre have been placed in various companies like Dr Reddy’s Foundation, Delta Academy, TCS, CISCO, ARINA, I&LFS, MIIT etc.

The Gollavilli centre will be managed in partnership with the Forum for Integrated Development and Research (FIDR), a renowned NGO which has more than 10 years of experience in implementing programmes in collaboration with the NASSCOM Foundation.
