BSNL Signs MoUs with Facebook & MobiKwik

BSNL Signs MoUs with Facebook & MobiKwik

State run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL),the oldest Telecom operator of India and incumbent Telecom operator in Landline, Broadband, Leased line, VSAT celebrated World Telecommunication and Information Society Day today at BSNL Corporate Office as well as at all its field offices.

On the occasion, BSNL signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with several organization and also announced host of new initiatives. Chief guest Aruna Sundraranjan, Secretary, Department of Telecommunication(DoT) said that she is confident that BSNL will play an important role in Government of India’s initiative of digital India.

BSNL signed first MoU with Facebook. Under this MoU BSNL is going to provide backhaul connectivity to various ISPs being served by Facebook. Anupam Shrivastava Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) BSNL said, “BSNL is happy to announce the start of its association with Facebook which has connected millions of people worldwide. Both organisations will gets benefitted with their complementary strengths”.

Munish Seth of Facebook stated “To fulfill the vision of Digital India, BSNL has joined hands with us to provide internet backhaul connectivity for its Express Wi-Fi Program. As a part of this understanding, Facebook’s Express Wi-Fi ISP partners throughout India will be able to benefit from the vast reach of the BSNL network to help provide fast, reliable and affordable Wi-Fi internet services to their communities, at even more affordable prices. We look forward to this partnership and working deeper with Facebook to connect India”.
Mobikwik announced two strategic partnerships with BSNL, under which, MobiKwik will co-create BSNL wallet, a new semi-closed wallet to facilitate ease of payment and also sell BSNL products exclusively in their wallet.  The Co-created wallet will be developed, operated and issued by MobiKwik and distributed and marketed by BSNL. The wallet will be available exclusively to BSNL customers in India.

Additionally, as a reseller, MobiKwik will enable digital sale of BSNL SIM cards through its app and website, and pan-India physical sale through the company’s vast army of 8000 feet-on-street (FOS) professionals and a large network of 250,000 offline retailers. Users can also pay BSNL bills on MobiKwik app.

According to Bipin Preet Singh, founder and CEO, Mobikwik, “With over 100 million users, BSNL is leading India’s telecom revolution and MobiKwik is in the forefront of the country’s digital transformation. BSNL also launched its “Bulk Email” solution in partnership with Data Infosys Limited. 
The Company upgraded minimum broadband speed of Landline Broadband users to 4 Mbps under all unlimited plans with FMC of Rs.675/- and above w.e.f. 01/05/2017. This upgradation is under taken free of cost to existing Broadband customers with which BSNL has become first Landline Broadband Telecom Operator to announce and implement minimum 4 Mbps speed.

BSNL has announced setting up of network management system (NMS) separately for it Data Network “IPMPLS” and for its “broadband network”. BSNL has also upgraded its data backbone using VSAT to offer Broadband speed upto 100 Mbps to its VSAT broadband customers. It has also announced setting up of South Asian Sub Regional economic Co-operation (SASREC) project under which telecom information among India, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangla Desh can be shared for research and training purpose.

On the occasion BSNL also felicitated one of its Unsung Hero RD Meena Sr. TOA from Jodhpur , Rajasthan. Officers like Meena work silently for upkeep and growth of BSNL services, the CMD said.
