Bihar behind others in rural electrification

Rural electrification work is working at slow pace in Bihar as over 8 000 villages yet to get power supply

Bihar is still lagging behind other states in rural electrification. As per the data received through answer of Lok Sabha questions, Bihar has continuously reduced its percentage achievement against the target of household electrification under Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY).
 
Based on the latest data of Rural Electrification Corporation (REC),more than 8,000 Bihar villages are yet to be connected with electricity supply.
 
Recently,the Bihar state power (holding) company limited (BSPHCL) has cleared Rs5,000 crore tender process (both technical and commercial) for RE programme in 27 districts, a BSPHCL official said. As per 2011 census, 30,553 out of 38,791 villages in Bihar have power supply.
