Rabi crops sowing crosses 442 lakh hectare

Rabi crops sowing as on December 8, 2017 has declined to 442.29 lakh hectares as compared to 448.48 lakh hectare this time in 2016

As per preliminary reports received from the States, the total area sown under Rabi crops as on December 8, 2017 stands at 442.29 lakh hectares as compared to 448.48 lakh hectare this time in 2016 which is slightly lesser than last year’s sowing, a press release of Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India has said.

Wheat sowing has declined from last year’s 203.56 lakh hectares to 190.87 lakh hectares this year. Another major food grain, rice has been sown or transplanted in 11.87 lakh hectares while pulses in 127.62 lakh hectares, coarse cereals in 44.14 lakh hectares and area sown under oilseeds is 67.79 lakh hectares, the release has further said on crop wise sowing.
