India’s one of the leading commercial banks, Allahabad Bank is serving pilgrims and visitors from remote rural areas at the Prayagraj Kumbh Mela. The bank is offering services ranging from cash withdrawals and deposits to the visitors as well as inter-banking facilities. For foreign travellers, the bank is offering foreign currency exchange services. To provide these solutions, the bank is operating three branches, one foreign exchange office and three ATMs across the mela area in the confluence of Ganges, Yamuna and Saraswati rivers.

The bank is operating through its makeshift offices in the Sangam area. It has deployed 10 of its employees who are supported by 10-12 bank mitras. If a visitor does not have change, he can take coins from the bank’s coin wending machine in the mela.

Informing about the services of the bank at Kumbh, Vivek Gupta, Manager – Forex, Allahabad Bank said, “The main objective of the bank is to provide banking services to the pilgrims who visit from remote rural areas. Urban customers already carry cash, withdrawn from the ATMs in the city.”

According to the bank, on the second day – January 16, 2019 - of Kumbh, over 100 visitors availed banking services from its Sector-2 branch in the mela area. To make the visitors aware about its services in the congregation, the bank has installed hoardings and banners at various locations and in the gathering points.

The bank had opened its first branch in Kumbh Mela on December 11, 2018 when the preparations for welcoming the millions of people at the world’s largest human congregation was on full swing. According the mela administration, on the inaugural day - January 15, 2019 – approximately 1.5 crore devotees participated in the Shahi Snan. The inaugural day Shahi Snan falls with Makarsankrati, thus it is also called Makarsankranti Shahi Snan.
