Services in rural areas should be at par with cities PM

Addressing panchayat representatives in Jamshedpur the Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised that services in rural areas should be at par with cities

Addressing panchayat representatives from across the country at JRD Tata sports complex, Jamshedpur on Sunday, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised that facilities and services in rural areas, should be at par with the cities. The Prime Minister exhorted the Panchayat representatives to use their tenure to work towards serving the people by aiming to bring about transformative change in the villages.

The Prime Minister was addressing the Panchayat members on the occasion of National Panchayati Raj Day. The event also marked the culmination of the Gramoday Se Bharat Uday Abhiyan, which began on the 125th birth anniversary of Babasaheb Ambedkar, at Mhow, on April 14th.

In particular, he said women members can play a leadership role in areas such as toilet construction. He urged the Panchayats to pay special attention to children’s education, and said if children stop attending schools, it should worry the Panchayat members.

He encouraged Panchayats to think beyond budgets, and focus on Jan Suvidha. After the event, the Prime Minister came down from the stage and met some of the Panchayat Representatives from across the country who had gathered in Jamshedpur.

Modi tried to touch every emotional chord of the elected representatives to encourage them for being active and responsible towards development of villages.

"There is no dearth of funds, planning or schemes but unless the elected representatives are responsive and take the meeting of gram sabha seriously, changes would not be visible," he said.
