NIF announces winners of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam IGNITE 2017 Award

Overall, 65,000 submissions of students from 576 districts from all the states and union territories of India were received during the IGNITE 17 competition


National Innovation Foundation- India (NIF) announces winners of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam IGNITE 2017 Award

The National Innovation Foundation- India (NIF) has announced the names of winners of the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam IGNITE 2017 Award, on his 86th birthday on Sunday.
 
Dr APJ Abdul Kalam IGNITE 2017 competition - a national competition of original technological ideas and innovations by children up to class 12 or those out of school up to the age of 17 years - is organised by NIF every year to promote creativity and originality among children.
 
The awards of IGNITE competition are announced every year on October 15th, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam’s birthday, which is celebrated as the Children’s Creativity and Innovation Day by NIF.

“This year a total of 56 students from 16 states will be awarded for 29 ideas and innovations. Overall, 65,000 submissions of students from 576 districts of all the states and union territories of India were received during the IGNITE 17 competition, which ran from September 1, 2016 to August 31, 2017,” Dr. Vipin Kumar, Director and Chief Innovation Officer, NIF said.

“The award ceremony will be held in December 2017 where former President of India, Pranab Mukherjee will give away the awards to the creative children,” he added.

An exhibition showcasing award winning ideas will be held at the venue. NIF will file patents in all applicable cases on behalf of the students and will also engage designers and fabricators to develop prototypes of the students’ ideas.

Dr APJ Abdul Kalam IGNITE competition is organised by NIF in association with Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Honey Bee Network, and other partners. A number of other State Educational Boards such as Board of School Education, Haryana; Nagaland Board of School Education; Directorate of Higher Education, Himachal Pradesh; West Bengal Board of Secondary Education; Lok Sikshan Sanchalanalaya, Madhya Pradesh; Rajiv Gandhi Shiksha Mission; Department of School Education, Govt. of Chhattisgarh and Mizoram Board of School Education also actively promoted the IGNITE campaign.
 
NIF, an autonomous body under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, has been actively engaged in promoting creativity and innovation in the society with active support from Honey Bee Network. NIF has taken major initiatives to serve the knowledge-rich but economically poor people of the country. It is committed to making India innovative by documenting, adding value, protecting the intellectual property rights (IPR) of the contemporary unaided technological innovators as well as of outstanding traditional knowledge-holders and disseminating their innovations on commercial and non-commercial basis.
 
Dr APJ Abdul Kalam IGNITE Award is an effort to focus primarily on the creativity of the children and promote inclusive and compassionate thinking among them.
